entry 9- obesity
Obesity.. "a disorder involving excessive body fat that increases the risk of health problems. This is a disease that increases the risk of other diseases and health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and certain cancers."(Obesity 2021) In my opinion, we should be more cautious and check what we consume. Obesity is a severe problem that affects a large number of Americans. Prices are one of the most serious issues underlying the obesity issue. The price difference between something nutritious and an unhealthy fast-food burger is absurd, as seen in the photo above. How come an unhealthy fast food burger costs $1 and a decent nutritious salad costs nearly $5? Why are "healthier" alternatives more expensive? Given that many Americans are on the lower end of the economic scale, this is a major concern. As a result, many individuals do not have the option of consuming healthy meals. This has an impact on society because consumers prefer unhealthy food since it is cheaper and more affordable. However, in the long run, this is a negative issue for their health, and while this meal is inexpensive at the time, the medical expenses to address their health concerns as a result of picking the unhealthy meal are more expensive. Thsi is why I belive that for the benefit of our communities and the health of others, we should make the transition of making healthier meals more affordable.
