entry 8 - my favorite animal
PENGUINS! who doesn't love them? I know I do !! Penguins are one of my favorite animals. It's on my bucket list to see one! But I can't help but wonder if I'll ever get that opportunity. Penguins are found in the southern hemisphere of the world, also known as Antarctica. These penguins live and depend on the Antarctica sea ice for survival. They use the sea ice for things such as breeding, moulting, and feeding. BUT a thing known as global exists. Global warming is the long-term heating of Earth's climate system observed since the pre-industrial period (between 1850 and 1900) due to human activities, primarily fossil fuel burning, which increases heat-trapping greenhouse gas levels in Earth's atmosphere. And because of this, the sea ice that these penguins so heavily depend on is melting. That's why the future of emperor penguins is in our hands, it depends on decisions made today and we must do this by reducing greenhouse gas emissions to limit further warming. A few ways we do this are
1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
2. Walk, Bike, or ride the bus to work
3. Plant a tree.
4. Use Less Heat and Air Conditioning.
5. Change a Light Bulb.
6. Buy a fuel efficient car (or hybrid vehicle)
7. Buy local goods and products.
SO PLEASE!!! let's all come together and make a difference in our actions to better not only our homes but the homes of all the beautiful animals that live alongside us.
Penguins are pretty awesome! I think everyone loves penguins. I know you mentioned you haven't ever seen one, I believe Sea World in San Diego has penguins, as well as the San Diego zoo. If you ever get a chance it's definitely worth going to see the exhibit. I also agree we can all make an impact on global warming and I try to do my best on so many of the things you mentioned. Glad to read your blog!
